Wedded Bliss
I remember the day I proposed to my wife, Jenn. The conversation wasn't all about the wedding plans. We talked about starting a family. We agreed we'd get started as soon as we were married. We were obliviously happy - on top of the world - and why not? We had so many exciting things ahead of us.
We started our life together and we started trying for a baby! We ate well and lived a healthy lifestyle. We tried for almost two years before Jenn said she wanted to see a fertility specialist. She thought we shouldn't have waited this long to get help. I, on the other hand, thought we should just give it a little more time.
Late summer, 2007, we met with Dr. Schillings. Both Jenn and I were checked out. Although some of our test results came back abnormal, we decided to keep trying on our own. Dr. Schillings did give us some medical options that we could try, like intrauterine insemination and in-vitro fertilization. WHAT!?! We didn't want medicines and doctors involved in what should be private. We consulted other specialists and they confirmed our worst fears. They told us, unless we go forward with these medical procedures, we may never have a child of our own. We may never have a child of our own ...
