Hello, I'm doctor Wendy Schillings. I wanted to introduce you to RMA of Pennsylvania. I wanted to walk you through a new patient appointment so that you know what to expect on your first visit here.
Before you come in, we will be sending you a questionnaire and we would like to have that filled out. One of the other things that we request before you come is if you had any old medical records for any testing or any prior treatment that has been done that is relative to the reason that you were coming. If you have that it's great, if you do not have that, you should not cancel your appointment; we will be able to see you and work with the information that we have.
When you first coming in you will be treated by our front office staff where they will check you in and make sure that we have all the available paperwork. I will then greet you and bring you back to the office so that we can discuss at your personal situation. I will take a history from you, which will include all of the information about your medical history, any prior diagnostic tests that have been performed in the past, and any treatments that you have had in the past. I will review this information and then we may be able to talk about at the possible diagnostic tests that you would need to complete their work up, as well as any treatment options that there are for you.
Sometimes we can discuss the treatment options before we know all of the diagnostic tests and can give you what options may be available to you. Once we have the diagnostic tests, however we may be able to more precisely decide what the appropriate treatment is for you. After we are finished in the consult room, you will go to the exam room. In the exam room, I will perform a physical exam as well as a transvaginal ultrasound. The transvaginal ultrasound gives us a lot of diagnostic information that will help determine the appropriate plan for you. Once we're done anything around that will be the last time you see me during this new patient visit.
You will then be escorted to the financial counselor office. The financial counselor will give you a lot of information about your insurance benefits and how this will affect your diagnostic testing and treatment. When you're finished with the financial counselor, you will then having nursing consult the nursing consult will then review the plan with you and go over the next steps. This way you are sure, before you leave, what you're next steps are so that you will be able to complete the plan which i have set out for you.
What you must realize is every couple is different. There are lots of cultural and religious believes that will effect your personal decisions on your treatment. Their our insurance and financial issues which will affect your choices of your diagnostic testing and treatment, as well as how much information you have had prior to this visit. Some patients come in and this is the first time they are ever speaking with an infertility specialist. Other couple have been to several other centers before and may have had several other courses of treatment. Some may be more knowledgeable as far as what options are available to them when they first come in.
I hope that you now understand what to expect on your first patient visit. You will have a lot of information to think about. So I look forward to seeing you again after you have thought about all of the information. Thank you.
