Referral Semen Analysis Patients
In addition to providing services to our own patients, RMAPA also provides Andrology testing services for other physician offices across the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas. These services include basic semen analysis (sperm count, motility, and morphology using Kruger's Strict Criteria), antisperm antibody screening, post-vasectomy semen analysis, and cryopreservation of sperm. All referral semen analysis patients must have a valid prescription from a physician.
All Andrology laboratory services are by appointment only. To schedule an analysis please call our office at (610) 820-6888, option 4. Appointment times are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. We also offer evening appointments until 6:00 pm, every Thursday. When calling to schedule an appointment, please have all personal information and insurance card readily available. A list of participating insurances is listed on the insurance page
of our website. It is also important to mention all test listed on your prescription by the requesting physician when scheduling an appointment to ensure our laboratory can meet your testing needs.
Please note: If your insurance normally requires you have a referral from your Primary Care Physician (PCP), to see a specialist, you will need to obtain a referral and have it sent to our office before your appointment. If you are required to have a referral but did not obtain one, your insurance does not cover the tests, or you do not have insurance, you will be required to pay in full the day the testing is performed.
Semen Analysis Instructions and Guideline Documents:
What should I bring with me to my appointment?
It is important that you bring valid (government provided) photo identification, your insurance card, and your visit co-pay. If you do not have insurance or your insurance does not cover the testing, you will be required to pay in full before your appointment.
If you are not a patient of RMAPA and were referred by another physician for testing you will need to bring with you a signed prescription form from that provider’s office.
What do you mean by abstinence?
Abstinence means that you should be refraining from having any type of ejaculate, including intercourse and masturbation, for 2 to 5 days leading up to your scheduled appointment. Patients with abstinence falling outside of the guidelines may produce abnormal results.
Where will I collect the sample in the office?
Our office provides patient with private collections rooms. The rooms are setup with all necessary collection items including an approved lubricant and adult viewing materials.
Can my partner come into the collection room with me?
Yes, of course! However, to ensure the sample is not contaminated, it must be collected by masturbation only.
How long will the appointment take?
Each appointment is allotted a 30 minute time slot. Every individual is different and it may take more or less time to produce their sample. Patients are free to leave as soon as the give their sample to the laboratory staff.
How will I get my results?
Semen analysis results typically take between 1-2 weeks. Patients of RMAPA will be contacted by a member of our clinical team to review the test results.
If the test was ordered by a non-RMAPA physician, all results will be sent to that prescribing physician via the fax number listed on the script. RMAPA is only the reference laboratory performing the semen analysis, as such we are not permitted to give or discuss any results to referral semen analysis patients. All questions and concerns must be directed towards the physician who ordered the test.
